Dave was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Insurance.com. Established in November 2000, Insurance.com grew to become the largest on-line auto insurance agency in the United States. From a concept drawn on a cocktail napkin, Dave successfully raised $110 million from strategic investors, venture capitalists and lenders. Insurance.com pioneered development of a proprietary network that seamlessly interfaces with up to 15 carriers and outside databases to provide instant, accurate, comparative auto insurance quotes enabling the consumer to buy immediately through licensed agents or on-line, real time. Growth was primarily organic, though we did acquire one company from Fidelity. Headquartered in Solon, Ohio, Insurance.com employed 200+ people. While still a substantial shareholder, Dave became a passive investor in 2009.

Previously, Dave’s career spanned nearly two decades with Progressive Insurance. Dave was originally a Product Manager for Progressive’s Recreational and Commercial Vehicle businesses. He then stepped out of the core independent agent insurance channel to start up Progressive’s first business-to-business endeavor. In 1987 Dave become the first Division President of what became Strategic Alliances. The mission grew to encompass national distribution of auto insurance through other insurance companies, national brokers, large employers, affinity groups, financial institutions, direct mail and the initial internet efforts. His role then expanded to include oversight of state general managers, in addition to the line management responsibility for Strategic Alliances (responsibilities grew from $13 million to $900+ million in revenue). He also served on Progressive’s Policy Team, reporting to the Chairman, helping to form and execute strategic and operational directions company wide.

Concurrent with his Progressive tenure, Dave was an angel investor and active Board member with American Cybercasting. This company was the first to provide junior and high school curriculum over the internet. The company was sold profitably in 1998 to NCS.

Dave is a 1980 Harvard Graduate School of Business alumnus and a magna cum laude graduate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship in 1975. He is a CPA and in 2007 was selected as one of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurs of the year for NE Ohio.

Dave and his wife of 30 years, Marianne, have four children with the youngest two in college. The family resides in Highland Heights, Ohio. Dave is an avid skier and kayaker.
